An arrangement of framed plaster Grand Tour intaglios of various sizes dating from the early 19th Century.
The intaglios are set in an antique birdseye maple frame with a gilt band and mounted on a green ground. It consists of forty-seven circular and oval-shaped plaster intaglios, mostly profile portrait medallions busts of French King’s, figures from antiquity and other historical figures, places of interest including Byron, various dukes and the Colosseum.

Intaglios – were originally used as seals, these carvings or cuttings are moulded out of white plaster, marble dust or wax. The original 19th-century intaglios were also made from wood or stone. The depressed designs depicting ancient scenes from Greece, Italy, etc were also used as markers of the land. They were also collected as souvenirs from European Grand Tours in 1830.
