Object Description

A good quality antique sterling silver snuffer stand of oblong shape with a flying scroll handle. Good plain design and heavy gauge silver with applied shell borders. Weight 273 grams, 8.7 troy ounces. Height 5.8 cms. Length 20 cms. Width 10.2 cms. London 1754. Maker William Grundy.

Biography – William Grundy, London silversmith, apprenticed to Edward Vincent 1731, free 1739. 1st mark entered 1743. Second mark (2 sizes) 1748. 3rd mark 1748. 4th mark 1777. 5th mark with Edward Fernell 1779. Died circa 1780.

Object Condition

Very good condition with no damage or restoration. Fully stamped underneath with English silver hallmarks. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
