Object Description

A decorative 3 piece sterling silver tea set with melon shape and cast decorative feet. Fine quality deep embossed decoration of flowers and foliage The teapot has a pretty flower finial, the jug and bowl have the original gilt interior. Weight 1545 grams, 49.6 troy ounces. Teapot contains 1200 ml, spread 29 cms, height 14.5 cms. London 1837. Maker William Hewitt.

Biography – William Hewitt, London silversmith, no mention of apprenticeship or freedom. 1st mark entered as smallworker 1829. 2nd mark 1834. 3rd mark (2 sizes) 1843.

Object Condition

This pretty set is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. Each piece has a full set of clear and matching English silver hallmarks. The decoration is deep and crisp. The jug and bowl have the original gilding, the bowl gilt is worn.
