Object Description

An early 20th century large antique Tabriz carpet dating from 1920-1930, with beautiful pale colours and an interesting medallion design with animals and windows looking into the garden designs.  We can see deer drinking water in the ponds with fish and ducks! Tigers in some of the window designs too! In remarkable original condition, it has been used throughout its life, which has aided its current beauty.  As the dyes have faded over the last 90-100 years to subtle pink/peach tones with a natural ivory wool centre.  A fantastic elegant carpet ideal for a drawing room or dining room.

Object Literature

The major city of Tabriz, located near the Turkish border, is the centre of classically designed antique carpets in Northwest Persia. At the foot of the beautiful Elbruz Mountains, Tabriz has a noteworthy history, both as the Persian market centre most linked geographically to European and Western commerce, and as the source of the most venerated weavings: the inspired carpets of the Shah Abbas period during the 15th and 16th centuries.

Object Condition

In near pristine original pile, glossy soft wool and beautiful gentle dyes.
