Object Description

A beautiful pale antique Tabriz rug with a glorious subtle palette, the design has been  executed with refinement by the weaver.  Woven in the late 19th century, with delicate corner spandrels and a gentle leaf and flower border around the refined central medallion. The muted red medallion has wonderful abrash (dye change) adding great character to this piece.  Gentle yellows, greens and even hints of pink can be seen, a lovely variety of dyes.

Object History

Private Collection.

Object Literature

Tabriz is a city located in the north-west of Persia, it was the major centre for production of rugs and carpets. They more than often will have central medallions but like every rug, the dyes play a huge part in a rugs beauty. It is the soft muted colours combined with the well thought put design that make this rug so appealing. Please feel free to email or call us with any further questions about this antique Tabriz rug.

Object Condition

The condition is truly excellent, with an excellent high wool pile all over. The wool on this rug is very soft, professionally washed by ourselves, the rug has a light handle to it.  We can even see the original fringes intact at both ends.  A wonderful honest antique rug, that is over 130 years old.
