Object Description
A lovely 18th century gulls wing beech knitting sheath, the design was made solely around Middleton in Teesdale, which is between Durham and the Yorkshire Dales. The haft is carved to a square section with horizontal lines and tapered towards the end. The flat faced blade, with a scolloped edge, has minute brass pin decoration surrounding extensive chip carved designs, including rosettes, trees and other forms. It is a serious collector’s item and has a pale colour, retaining a natural patination.
