A good 18th century lignum vitae pestle and mortar in both heart and sap wood, with the mortar of traditional form having a waisted centre with a moulded bead and reeded and incised line decoration. The matching pestle, with a turned and shaped handle, has a domed turned end and incised lines. The whole has an excellent colour and patination.
