Object Description

An unusual twin section pocket tobacco box of oval form, having inlaid boxwood stringing to each end. The interior, of conforming design, has finger and thumb grips to one end and slides out as a separate container, with a central oval aperture for the tobacco. To ascertain which way to open, there is an inlaid diamond to one side. The whole has an excellent colour, grain and patination. Masur birch is sometimes called Karelian birch. The trees are found in the autonomous area of Finland near the border of Russia.
