Object Description

A plain boxwood sail maker’s seam rubber or liner, stamped on both sides A.F. Cooke and having a pale honey colour and natural patination. Seam rubbers were made in various woods and sometimes whale bone or walrus ivory and were used by sailors and sail makers for smoothing the seams in canvas, flattening the double line of waxed stitches into the canvas.
