A most unusual and well carved Finnish birch marriage spoon, having a bowl with a carved log cabin inscribed HEMBYGDSSTUCAN. The back of the bowl is dated 1926, with a shaped shield and a crown, spear, paddles and two flags below. The chip carved handle has names carved on either side – ASAIGARR IORSA NITTO and HUNDR ADJUGOSEX. Above this is a spiral caged lantern with four loose balls. The spirals, with many carved stars, terminates in a rounded open horse shoe handle for hanging. The whole has a lovely pale honey colour and patination.
