Object Description

A well turned Georgian boxwood teacher’s clicker, also known as a clicket or snapper, having incised lines and an acorn finial. These interesting items were used for calling inattentive children to order in the classroom. Early examples have the trigger held by a gut cord, as in this instance. Later examples have a spring loaded trigger. Notice the angled thumb piece at the end. The majority of clickers are of the Victorian Period and it is rare to find an earlier example. The whole has an excellent colour and patination.
