Description:
Here is a fine quality and rare Victorian Anglo-Indian colonial sold teak ebonised style dressing table, circa 1870, with original mirror, in excellent original condition.
The dressing table retains the original rectangular shaped mirror (with signs of foxing visible), which is encased within a moulded frame, supported by fine ‘C scroll’ carved upright arms. The angle of the mirror can be adjusted simply by tilting the mirror itself. Further below, there are two levels to the dressing table; the top level incorporates three drawers with the original knobs, all which are teak lined and hand dovetailed. Each level of the table boasts lovely moulded edges. The main section of the table houses two large teak lined hand dovetailed drawers. The drawer fronts also feature elegant scribe mouldings. The large drawers retain their original turned knobs. All five drawers retain their original locks, with a working key. The table stands on the original elegant ring turned teak legs.
The dressing table has also been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional rustic standard, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. The dressing table features a rich brown-black ebony style colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination. This truly is a very beautiful item with quality construction and is original throughout. It is rare to see one in such good condition.
This dressing table with mirror would look superb in the bedroom. The item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Provenance:
This table dressing table originates from India and it is likely that it would have been commissioned for a wealthy lady during the days of the British Raj, in colonial India, during the mid-late Victorian period.
Condition Report:
This Victorian Anglo-Indian dressing table is in excellent overall original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, top and inside of drawers, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The dressing table has also been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional rustic standard, therefore the ebonised colour and patination is of an excellent standard. The mirror, which is original, shows signs of foxing (please see photos), but this does not detract from the overall look of the item. We have offered the dressing table with its original mirror, as some people prefer it to be original. However, if you prefer to have a new mirror fitted, it can be replaced for £50 (this is for a non-bevelled mirror). The two teak lined and hand-dovetailed drawers close flush to the frame and they also retain their original turned wooden knobs, as well as their original working locks, with working key. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
