Object Description
This is a beautiful antique satinwood, marquetry inlaid and tulipwood crossbanded dressing table, circa 1880 in date.
This unusual dressing table is of the very highest quality and features beautiful decorative marquetry inlaid decoration of garlands, ribbons, bows and shells with decorative tulipwood crossbanding throughout.
The central shaped mirror is supported by a cupboard above a drawer on each side. Each cupboard has an inlaid panel door that opens to reveal a double concertina mirror and a central shelf.
There is a large central breakfront drawer flanked by a pair of pedestals each with four drawers.
The dressing table is raised on two sets of four square tapering legs, that terminate in the original brass cap castors, conjoined by shaped stretchers.
There is no mistaking it’s superb quality and fantastic design, which alone is certain to make this set a talking point in your home and become a treasured addition to the furniture in your bedroom.

Satinwood is a hard and durable wood with a satinlike sheen, much used in cabinetmaking, especially in marquetry. It comes from two tropical trees of the family Rutaceae (rue family). East Indian or Ceylon satinwood is the yellowish or dark-brown heartwood of Chloroxylon swietenia.
The lustrous, fine-grained, usually figured wood is used for furniture, cabinetwork, veneers, and backs of brushes. West Indian satinwood, sometimes called yellowwood, is considered superior. It is the golden yellow, lustrous, even-grained wood found in the Florida Keys and the West Indies.
It has long been valued for furniture. It is also used for musical instruments, veneers, and other purposes. Satinwood is classified in the division Magnoliophyta, class Magnoliopsida, order Sapindales, family Rutaceae.
