This is a splendid large antique English Victorian Old Sheffield silver plated meat tureen with domed cover, circa 1820 in date and bearing the makers’ marks of T & J. Creswick, Sheffield.
This beautiful tureen is oval and features an exquisite gadrooned shaped border with a domed lid which is surmounted by a decorative cast handle in the shape of acanthus leaves.
Both the dish and the cover feature an engraved family crest depicting a star and two wings with the Latin motto, ‘Virtus in Arduis’ (Virtue amid difficulties).
It bears the figural ‘arrows’ makers’ trademark for T & J. Creswick, Sheffield.
In excellent condition, this wonderful tureen is ready to grace your dining table.

Creswick & Co – formerly TJ & N Creswick of Sheffield. The “arrows” trademark was first registered in 1811 for Old Sheffield Plate production. The cross arrows trademark was later acquired by William Hutton & Sons in 1902. Electroplating began in 1852. The firm became Creswick & Co in 1855.
