This is a superb antique Victorian hallmarked solid sterling silver trophy/cup with two handles measuring 10″ (26 cms) tall (including the base) x 12″ (30 cms) across including the handles.
It’s hallmarked for London 1886 with the silversmiths mark for Frederick Elkington.
It is in excellent condition with no damage and is engraved ‘The London Trotting Club, The Winter Cup, Greenford Driving Park, Middlesex, March 8 1926’ ‘Won by Birkenshaw Boy, Driven By J.Robertson, Owner A.Leader’ and is particularly nice as it comes with a framed black and white photo of Birkenshaw Boy racing.
The trophy sits on an ebonised base and the cup alone weighs 1035 grams which gives you an idea of the quality.
