Object Description
A wonderful antique Victorian sterling silver canteen of cutlery which has been designed in the Fiddle pattern style for twelve persons. This original set was hallmarked in London for 1865 by George Adams. It is much harder to find a complete set of the same date and maker in the Victorian era and it consists of:
12 x table forks: 21.7 cms (8.5″) in length
12 x dessert forks: 17.5 cms (6.9″) in length
12 x table/soup spoons: 22.4 cms (8.8″) in length
12 x dessert spoons: 18.2 cms (7.2″) in length
12 x teaspoons: 14.5 cms (5.7″) in length
1 x soup ladle: 34.2 cms (13.5″) in length
1 x sauce ladle: 18.1 cms (7.1″) in length
12 x table knives: 24.5 cms (9.6″) in length
12 x dessert knives: 21.6 cms (8.5″) in length
Total weight (without the knives): 111.9 troy ounces (3,479 grams)
This lovely set has been well cared for over the years and remains in excellent condition. It would look impressive when displayed on the table and would be a pleasure to use. There are 86 pieces in total. The silver handled knives with stainless steel blades were added in the year 2000 and were made by United Cutlers Ltd of Sheffield and they compliment the set perfectly. Useful wraps have also been provided to help keep the set clean and tidy.
