Object Description
An interesting antique Victorian sterling silver and glass claret jug which has a tall glass body with star detailing and resting on a flat round base with star cut decoration. The elaborate silver mount is decorated with fruit, leaves and Bacchus head motifs. The hinged silver lid has the same fruit and leaf detailing with an impressive thumb pieced depicting a lion in a standing position holding a shield. It has a good pouring spout and a substantial plain handle with a silver bead patterned band around the body for extra support. This silver claret jug is both practical and pleasing to the eye and would make a perfect addition to a collection. The crest on the shield is slightly rubbed which is in keeping with the age and it will hold 950 ml of wine.
