An impressive French late 19th Century Art Nouveau bronze bust of a beautiful young warrior woman, the famous character from Wagner’s work, wearing winged helmet and holding a battle shield. The bronze with rich red/brown variegated patination and excellent surface detail. Raised on integral base with title to the fore. Signed E Villanis

Object History

Emmanuel Villanis ~ French, 1858 ~ 1914 ~ Villanis worked in France and began exhibiting at the salon in 1896. Strongly stylised by the Art Nouveau movement, he produced many works representing feminine figures influenced by classical subjects and famous operatic characters. The majority were cast in bronze using various coloured patinations and often in many dimensions.
