Object Description

A fine English Regency period striking table clock of rare small size. The classic architectural case is veneered in highly figured bird’s eye maple with ebony mouldings and floral inlaid sprays. It stands on shallow brass block feet and it has an elegant Greek pedimented top and brass inlaid ebony chamfers to each side.

The 5 inch round brass dial has a silvered outer chapter ring with Roman hour numerals and a fine engine turned brass centre. The engine turned inner bezel is also gilded and beautifully finished . The blued steel Breguet style hands appear to be original.

The double fusee 8-day duration movement has an original anchor escapement and hour strike and repeat on a bell. The substantial back plate which is signed by the maker Barwise, London fills almost the entire case, a sure sign of quality workmanship.

This beautiful little clock is of exceptional quality and in pristine condition. Being small and architectural and veneered in birds eye maple it is also extremely unusual and highly collectable.
