A mid 19th century French bois durci medallion of Napoleon Prince Imperial.
The medallion has the words ‘Napoleon, Prince Imperial’ at the top and ‘Né Le 16 Mars 1856’ at the bottom.
Bois Durci was used as an ebony or hard wood substitute and was made from hard wood sawdust mixed with animal blood that was heated and compressed in a mould.
The medallion is in very good condition. (Circa 1860)
