Object Description
A Travelling brass Pounce Pot with a screw on lid. The lid has a hinged handle, much like the standard travel inkwells, which folds to reduce in height. When the lid is removed, a fixed sieve is revealed for pouring the pounce. To refill the pot, you also pour it through the sieve. The pot is very plain but the lid has some ring decoration and a shaped handle. Pounce is a fine powder that was used to both smooth unsized paper for writing and to dry the ink afterwards. Early 19th Century.
