A wonderful French bronze sculpture of a fishing boy by Lavergne. The figure is two tone patinated bronze and mounted on a rectangular plinth with impressed Lavergne signature with a brass plaque mounted on the front with title and artist on it ‘PECHEUR, Par Lavergne’, translated ‘Fisherman by lavergne’. The bronze shows a young fishing boy holding his rod while he puts a hook on the end of the fishing line. He is barefoot with his trousers rolled above his knees, the sleeves of his open necked shirt rolled up and is wearing a straw hat. He is stood next to a bollard with ring and rope attached, the Lavergne signature is next to the bollard. The base is also impressed on the underside.
Adolphe Jean Lavergne (1852-1901) was a French sculptor well know for producing high quality figures.
