Object Description

A lovely Ancient Roman cast bronze high relief applique featuring a woman holding a dog. The woman and dog have been cast in 3D, creating depth and complexity to this unique item. The dog on this applique is most likely fulfilling the role of protector for this woman, which was the most common role of dogs in Ancient Rome. Appliques such as this were often attached to larger items, such as horse tacks and chariots, or even domestic items such as jewellery boxes. This item comes with a custom stand.

Date: Circa 3rd Century BC
