Directors Notes
The iconic Bulgari Monete jewels were launched mid 1960s and driven by Nicola Bulgari, a keen coin collector. The collection expanded quickly as the reception was so positive that they never looked back and still create this range today. The concept of setting coins into jewellery goes as far back as the Roman empire but it had a resurgence in popularity in the late 19th century. Bulgari have great respect for the historic value and heritage of the ancient coins used in their jewels, they refer to them as ‘Gemme Nummarie’ (Coin gems) and it is an important factor that in every jewel the coins are set carefully so that they are not damaged in any way. Each coin has its information engraved into the jewel so it’s importance and history are not lost. Bulgari is a company proud of its origins and using these ancient and classical coins also honours their cultural heritage. The Bulgari Monete collection pieces are more than jewels, they are jewelled historical artifacts.
