A charming little gold and ruby turtle brooch by Cartier c.1960s, the body formed in 18ct yellow gold and marked to the limbs, head and tail with scales, the openwork domed shell formed of an interwoven criss-cross of twisted gold wires, claw set throughout with round faceted rubies, the eyes set with ruby cabochons, to a double pin brooch fitting on the reverse with safety catch. This delightful brooch is beautifully made and with thoughtful details such as the scales, asymmetry of the limbs and even tiny nostrils contributing to its overall appeal. The rubies are a lovely rich intense colour and have been well matched, and the cabochon eyes provide the finishing touch. However and whenever you wear it, it’ll bring a little touch of vintage Cartier magic to your day.
