An elegant vintage gold and sapphire bow brooch by Cartier c.1940s designed as a circular ribbon bow with five three-dimensional loops in polished 18ct yellow gold with one edge finished with a rope twist border, centred with a cluster of seven deep blue round sapphires in claw settings, to a double pin brooch fitting. Quintessentially 1940s in style this brooch creates impact with sculptural form and volume, textural variation and richly coloured gems. The deep blue colour of the sapphires (which have been well matched) are in beautiful contrast to the warmth of the yellow gold and the openness of the design maintains a feeling of lightness as if it were truly made of ribbon.
