Object Description

Three plank poplar panel carved in relief with cupid and a putto holding a heart flanking a coat of arms encircled with acanthus leaves, the coat of arms with the initials G and I below a fortified building and a serpent entwined around a post. North Italy, circa 1700

The panel is probably the front of a chest commissioned to celebrate a betrothal.

Object Condition

Slight shrinkage between the planks
