Object Description

This fine quality cast topped Victorian silver snuff box was made in London in 1837 by John Linnet and measures 3 1/8 inches long by just over 2 inches wide and is 0.75 inches deep, it is beautifully engraved around the sides and to the base with scrolling acanthus leaves and has a central shaped cartouche bearing the engraved initials TW in flowing script to the base and to the lid is a wonderful tavern scene, it is gilded to the interior and bears the inscription PRESENTED TO MR JOHN WILLSON AS A TOKEN OF RESPECT AND ESTEEM JAN 1847. It is fully and clearly hallmarked both base and lid and also to the front on the left hand corner with the monarchs head and lion passant and is in very good condition weighing 4.60 ounces or 143 grams.
