Object Description

A Chinese unglazed white clay statuette of a female court, traces of red and black paint visible on her eyes, hair, cheeks, clothes and lips. Traces of paint suggest that her garb was painted red and that she was depicted with make up. Hair is arranged in a topknot. This statuette was likely a mingqi – a burial figurine, viewed as sort of a utensil for the afterlife usually depicting everyday objects and people such as dancers, court attendants and servants.

Object Condition

Very good. Fine with some incrustation, back part of the head chipped.
