Object Description
Raku glazed sculptural form vase, the exterior glazed white with the sides unglazed revealing the black biscuit, the interior glazed green, the base with the impressed seal marks of the potter. Elizabeth Raeburn, British Studio Potter, born 1943
Elizabeth Raeburn began her career as a potter later in life. She spent a brief but influential time as a production student in David Leach’s workshop and in 1975 established her own pottery in Somerset. She has concentrated on hand-built Raku firing, an exciting technique which always offers an element of surprise. Her work can be found in many prestigious private collections and public galleries including The Victoria and Albert Museum, London and the National Museum of History, Taipei, Taiwan.
