Object Description

A Chic Gilded Iron Tripod Floor Standard Lamp by Maison Ramsay, Paris

French Paris circa 1940

With its arched tripod base and cluster column central support, this fine lamp is an excellent example of the work of Maison Ramsay from c.1940-50. it is the constricted diamond form knop that is particularly unusual, however, giving this lamp that extra element of decorative flair and making it particularly desirable. The piece is made of wrought iron, making it very strong and well-balanced in the process. The iron has been gilded and the aging to the gilding is extremely attractive, the variation in colour and texture being extremely pleasing to the eye and also making this a particularly tactile piece. Every home requires a floor lamp and this is an extremely practical and attractive example.

Maison Ramsay was founded in the early 20th century but reached the peak of its success between c.1940 and c.1970. The firm is particularly associated with gilded metal work, utilising iron, bronze, steel and brass in its creations. The firm’s products are highly sought-after today by an audience of collectors and decorators and we are delighted to be able to offer this fine example of the company’s work to our clients.
