Object Description

Blue and White rare Chinese Transitional / Late Ming porcelain mug I a cylindrical or waisted form. made during the last Ming Emperor’s reign – Chongzhen – at the kilns at Jingdezhen c1643
Painted with a continuous scene of two scholars in a conversation I a garden setting. the top of the tankard is painted with scrolling foliage and around the base stylized lappets.
excellent colour and potting of a rare item.

Object History

From The Arthur Sprigs Collection and he had purchased it from Hopkins in Oxford in the 1950’s

Object Condition

Overall excellent. firings around the base of the handle and stress lines towards the top which are barely visible
A small glaze chip by the hole in the handle probably done after firing.
