Object Description
Kangxi small blue and white porcelain export ware tea pot made at the kilns of Jingdezhen at the very start of the 18th century.
like many of the early export ware tea pots it is a small size reflecting the fact that tea was a very expensive commodity and drank from small bowls.
Excellent colour and painting of auspicious items including scrolls for the scholar, a ding – the incense burner – and lozenge.
the rounded squat shape of the tea pot would indicate the item although made for export was made between 1690 -1710
The base of the tea pot has the jade mark showing status.
The silver mounts to the handle are incised and shaped to represent leaves. These were probably added to give more strength to the handle or repair weaknesses.
