Object Description

Chinese early 18th century water dropper modelled as a boy on a buffalo. Biscuit porcelain with famille verte enamels for colour decoration.
Excellent colour and detail in the modelling especially around the buffalo’s eye.

A buffalo is a positive animal and never used for food in Chinese culture. It represents the coming of spring. When portrayed with children either playing with it or seated on it is to show their loyalty and how and how docile they are. But it also represents a good harvest and fertility
