Object Description

Chinese late Ming 17th Century pair of Blue and white plates made for export to japan known as Ko-sometsuke. Made during the reign of the Emperor Tianqi at the kilns at Jingdezhen
The centre is painted with a bouquet of auspicious flowers including lily and lotus. The sides painted with a stylized swastika pattern in a trellis design with four cartouches of important flowers, reflecting those found to the centre.
The underside painted with bamboo tips
Like all ko-sometsuke the were deliberately added faults to appeal to the Japanese market and these have a roughened edge so appearing slightly nibbled. There are no faults to the plates and are in exceptional condition.
