Object Description

This is a beautiful hand painted, blue and white Chinese porcelain large diameter dish or plate, which we date to the early 19th Century period of the Qing dynasty.

The plate is well potted with a notched outer rim and an eight section cavetto, all hand decorated in varying shades of cobalt ‘steel’ blue. The glaze is thin and glassy with a lovely bluish tinge.

The decoration is all hand painted in a “fish” themed pattern. There is a large floral pattern in the central field within two double blue rings, surrounded by eight radiating panels having fish, crab and prawns hand painted in each panel.

The reverse has eight simple hand painted motifs following the same theme as the front pattern. The central base has a hand written four character Qing mark, probably Kangxi, within two blue rings, but we date this plate to the early 19th Century.

The foot rim is neatly trimmed.
