The body of this jardinière was produced in China, while the gilt bronze (ormolu) fixtures were appended in France. The jardinière’s body, which is bulbous in form and gently tapers towards the base and narrows at the shoulders, is crafted from cloisonné enamel. The enamel jardinière features a gilt bronze rim, which flares outwards and includes a sequence of pierced ruyi heads. The shoulder of the jardinière features an enamel band of ruyi heads in black and tones of yellow, blue, and red. On the body, the enamel is composed to form flowers, with petals of blue, white, pink, and red, all against a blue ground and set amid green foliage. Amongst the foliage flutter butterflies. The body of the jardinière rests upon a gilt bronze base, which is delicately pierced with scrollwork and stands on six scrolled feet.
The jardinière stands upon a specially created ebonised teak stand. The top of the stand features two tiers separated by ball forms. The stand includes four legs, ornately carved with dragon masks. The legs terminated in ball-and-claw feet.
