Object Description

Made as a souvenir of the Tour of Pakistan by the Commonwealth team in 1950, this engraved brass commemorative tray features the list of players of the two team on either side, with images of the venues displayed in the four quadrants in the centre. Beautifully carved, the piece is a unique and magnificent souvenir of an historic cricket match, made in the Benares style, a traditional and important craft in Utter Pradesh, India, and in Moradabad, the city where this object originates. A wonderfully decorative object, it features peacocks and floral motifs interspaced between the pictures of the venues and the team lists on either side.
