This large patinated bronze sculpture depicts a half life sized Arab stallion horse, in statuesque naturalistic detail. It stands proudly on a rectangular painted wooden plinth, and is numbered 3 from an edition of 7. The artist, James Osborne (British, 1940-1992), a postwar and contemporary sculptor who specialised in sporting and wildlife models. He was particularly inspired to revive the classical animalier style, and was inspired to express action and lifelike representations of animals. Osborne exhibited all over the world and his patrons included members of the royal family.
The sculpture is signed, numbered and dated ‘J Osborne / 3/7 / 84’.
