Object Description

Early 19th century Georgian mahogany three pedestal antique dining table. This is an elegant table made of large sheets of very fine quality solid mahogany. The edge of the top and legs are delicately moulded, the latter ending with interesting gilt brass toe caps and casters. This table has two removable leaves and the tops tilt for ease of movement and storage, especially useful for dinner dances. This is a really good table with a great provenance. This three-pedestal dining table was in the main house at Spendthrift Farm, Lexington, Kentucky. During its heyday, Spendthrift, under the ownership of the legendary Leslie Coombs, was one of America’s premier Thoroughbred farms. Coombs was a consummate promoter, and luminaries such as Princess Margaret, Henry Kissinger, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney, Judy Garland, Elizabeth Arden, Louis B. Mayer, President of MGM Studios, among many others, dined at this table.
