Object Description

Fine Early Victorian Brass Skeleton Clock.

Steeple shaped thick brass plates with six tapered, ringed pillars. Finely engraved ringed turnings.

Wheelwork of the highest quality all with five and six spoke wheel crossings.

Eight day Fusee movement with dead beat escapement and steel rod to the large brass bob pendulum.

Silvered dial with Roman numerals signed ‘Dell, Bristol’. The clock resting on a walnut base with brass inlay set on four bun feet. C.1840

‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ by Brian Loomes lists Issac Dell as working from Broad Street in Bristol c.1840-1872. He notes that he also was a maker of chronometers.
