Object Description
A stunning Arts & Crafts Doulton Lambeth Faience hand painted vase with yellow flowering stems by renowned artist Edith Jane Gillman and dating from around 1896. Edith Gillman joined Doulton Lambeth dated 1905 and was a talented flower painter who studied nature and produced work on vases based on her own drawings. This very stylish shaped stoneware vase is of tall cylindrical shape with a wide skirted foot and with a wide ring shaped upper body and short wide pinched top fold back rim. The body of the vase is hand painted with spiked stems bearing small yellow flowers interspersed with yellow puffballs. The vase is hand painted in tones of brown, yellow and green on a mottled blue and pale yellow ground with brown glazes applied to the inside rim. The vase has various impressed and printed makers marks to the base along with a monogram for Edith Jane Gillman and is numbered 349. The vase also has an impressed date mark F dating the vase to 1905.
