Object Description

A stunning Doulton Lambeth Aesthetic Movement vase decorated with stylised floral and leaf designs by renowned artists Edward Dunn and Rosina Brown and dated 1884. The stoneware vase stands on a narrow round unglazed foot with slightly recessed base and is of tall bulbous form with a pinched waist and funnel shaped top with a trumpet shaped opening. The body of the vase is decorated with small raised flowerheads set against larger incised daisy shaped flowers with scrolling stems and leaves. The pattern is repeated around the body of the vase and contained within arabesque style borders with large leaf designs repeated around the lower body. The vase is decorated in tones of brown and blue with elements of the natural clay colors coming through. The vase bears impressed makers marks to the base along with incised and impressed artist marks for Edward Dunn and Rosina Brown assisted by Agnes Horn and Louisa Ayling. The vase is also dated 1884.
