Object Description

An Egyptian, partially glazed, faience amulet depicting a wedjat eye, or Eye of Horus. The eye itself features an almond-shaped exterior extending outward, with a circular iris to the centre. A horizontal, linear black line indicates the eyebrow, which extends across the top edge of the amulet. The cheek marking is a vertical rectangular protrusion. An elongation curls from the base of the eye and meets at the end of the extension, leaving empty space in between. The amulet combines elements of both human and falcon ocular imagery. Remnants of black pigment survives around the iris, and some turquoise pigment at the edges of the piece. The opposite side of the amulet exhibits the same imagery, though less pigmentation survives. The amulet is pierced longitudinally for suspension.
