An elegant Ancient Egyptian restrung beaded necklace with bright blue faience beads, small clear hardstone beads, dark blue faience disc beads and lapis lazuli poppy amulets. The mixture of shades of blue and the shape of the beads create a visually pleasing effect and each poppy bead has been carefully carved.
Poppy amulets and imagery often appear in association with the dead and Osiris, who was also the god of agriculture as well as death and the afterlife. As in modern symbolism, poppies also carried associations with rebirth and resilience due to the hardy nature of the plant.
