Object Description

A very rare steatite Egyptian First Intermediate Period scarab. The obverse has been carved to depict the clypeus and head of the scarab, with faint lines for the elytra. Further detailing has been undercut, into the sides and virtually through the entire scarab to depict the notched legs. The flat, reverse has a simple stylised motif, possibly depicting two twirling uraei. The scarab has been pierced longitudinally for suspension.
