Object Description

A very unusual Doulton Lambeth Aesthetic Movement stoneware vase decorated in low relief in Persian style by renowned and sought after artist Eliza Simmance dating from around 1885. The vase stands on a narrow round pedestal foot with a wide round bottle shaped body and tall slender neck applied with a raised collar with a flared top with a large thick ring edge. The body of the vase is decorated in the Persian arabesque style with decorative bands with carved low relief patterns painted in contrasting matted majolica style colors highlighted with elements of gilt and with brown glazes applied to foot rim, the neck collar and top rim. The vase has impressed and incised marks to the base including ES monogram for Eliza Simmance together with assistant marks for Eliza Bowen.

Object Condition

In good condition with a couple of tiny chips to the pattern on the body.
