Object Description
Encrusted porcelain floral chandelier in the style of Meissen
German, late 19th Century
Height 90cm, diameter 80cm
This fine Meissen style chandelier is wrought from iron, brass, and porcelain. The chandelier is arranged about a central stem: at the bottom, between two bulbous porcelain elements, eight scrolled iron branches spring, each terminating in a porcelain candleholder modelled as a floral bud. Amongst the scrolled branches, brass wires wind, mimicking natural scrubby growth. Along the central stem, further wires twist and wind, the wires supporting yet more encrusted porcelain flowers. The top of the stem supports a corona of floral sprays, each of iron and each terminating in a vibrantly coloured porcelain flower.
