Object Description
English Rococo style side table mounted with gilt bronze and porcelain
English, c. 1850
Height 71cm, width 34cm, depth 26cm
This charming Victorian side table is wrought in a distinctly French style. The table features four cabriole legs joined below by a wooden shelf bounded by a gilt bronze gallery. The shaped apron above is inset to the front with a painted porcelain plaque in the style of Sèvres. The table is set with superb gilt bronze mounts: the scrolled feet, the rocaille-like mounts to the shoulders, and the foliate frame around the porcelain plaque. The surfaces throughout are beautifully finished with lighter and darker toned wood veneers. The piece is a charming example of the eclectic taste dominant during Victorian times.
