Object Literature

Jean-Baptiste Germain was born on 28 December 1841 at Fismes, France. His brother Gustave Germain (1843-1909) was also a sculptor He studied under the sculptors Auguste Dumont (1801-1884) and Charles-Alphonse Gumery )1827-1871) at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1866 and 1909. He won a number of prizes for his works including the third prize in 1883 and an honourable mention at the Exposition Universelle in 1900. He became a member of the Society of French Artists in 1889. Germain died on 23 September 1910.
